Several studies have suggested that children who are exposed to anesthesia several times during their young lives are at greater risk for learning disabilities and behavior problems. One study, performed by the Mayo Clinic, stated that children with two or more exposures to anesthesia were at greater risk of developing ADHD. However a study published in Pediatrics stated that a child who is less than three and exposed to anesthesia –just once – can cause harm.
